Meet the Speaker: Tiia Palvimo, Business Development Manager for Telia Finland
Europe’s leading location intelligence seminar the Geo Business Seminar is just around the corner and we’re delighted to give you a sneak preview of one of the speakers, and what they’ll be talking about in Amsterdam on Tuesday 17th March at the Royal Tropical Institute.
Tiia Palvimo is one of Europe’s leading location intelligence specialists and champions the use of data to support and drive decision-making process in commercial organisations. So, what makes her tick, and what can delegates expect to learn from Tiia?
Welcome Tiia! Can you tell us about yourself?
Even though I’ve been working with location data for over fifteen years I’m still fascinated and driven by finding new ways of how spatial analysis can help commercial organisations make better business decisions. I like sharing my skills and expertise and, having joined Telia in the last year, meeting new customers in new industries with a new challenge that we can help to solve. I just love working with maps and making stunning visualisations that show the bigger picture rather than data being lost in a spreadsheet.
Can you share an example of location intelligence best practice?
More and more people in the tech community are coming to understand that using location intelligence for anything from strategic planning to market and territory optimisation, helps companies to grow their business.
One great example is Scandic Hotels Group who wanted to better understand how to reach potential customers, to help improve occupancy. By gathering and then analysing data on the movement of people, they have been able to refocus their marketing and sales efforts to achieve better business growth.
Who impresses you in the tech community?
I recently read an article on Tahirah Mahan Thomas of CBRE which really stood out for me. Tahirah’s background is in marketing but in the last few years she has taken the lead on a ground-breaking project in which location data is turned into compelling visual stories, transforming CBRE’s clients’ abilities to select office retail and industrial sites as well as recruit employees and choose vendors and tenants.
I’ll be hosting a lunch for ‘Women in GIS’ at the seminar to swap stories and share advice, if any readers would like to come along please sign up for the event!
What will delegates learn from you at the Geo Business seminar?
I’ll be talking about the business benefits of using actual people-flow information. For example, in the retail community, how retailers can gain a near real-time understanding of how people behave in different areas, at different times even. Understanding the dynamics of people-flow and how it supports business growth.
And who are you looking forward to hearing from?
I think that Richard Bezuidenhout of Swarovski will have some very interesting insights to share; he’ll be talking about how location data is driving sales opportunities. But there are many more from Piaggio to Business Sweden, it should be a really worthwhile day.
Tiia Palvimo and all other speakers and panel participants will be available to meet during the event’s Speed Network Session. To find out more and register free for the event, please click here.
